lan - little about networks

The next LAN party is currently scheduled for Wednesday 27th January

OK, I'm not going to make this into some big nice-looking page because hopefully it's only here for a brief while (until someone makes a better one =).

News

At the moment the biggest news is that Domgrief and DocFisher are working together to this lan party idea into a regular thing.

In other news, this page exists now =). Please use the left table cell to navigate.

Events:

As previously mentioned, the next lan party is scheduled for the 27th of January. It will be located at my (Domgrief's) place. Please contact me by e-mail or on ICQ# 24351824 for an address. Please don't invite anyone else along or pass on the address for the next meet as it is only short notice and all 8 ports are full as well =/.

You WILL NEED a 10/100Mbit network card with a BNC and/or RJ45 plug (we're running an 8-port 10Mbit hub at the moment, donations of 32-port 100Mbit hub gladly accepted =), some category 5 network cabling (preferably about 5 metres, a couple of people should be able to get away with 2), or some co-axial BNC cable if you have the terminators and t-pieces with you, and some money for pizza (we'll gnaw through 4 to 6 pizzas, so $5 will be more than enough).

All up the network gear will set you back $50, but you only have to buy it once.

You will also want your cards configured properly, and some Microsoft networking updates. We can set this up at the lan party if you don't want to mess around with yours at home (but I doubt that's likely =).

All of that except the pizza you can get from Tang computers, who have the network cabling there in packets, and probably anyone else in town.
